High Street Hero - Mons Cheesemongers

Mons Fromager’s first maturing cellars were set up on the Cote Roannaise in 1950s France by Hubert & Rolande Mons. They worked ripening their cheese & selling them at markets around the local area, going on to open a shop in Roanne by the name of L’Auvergnat which became the flagship of the family business. In the 1980s, Hubert's sons joined the family business: Laurent as owner of the family shop & Herve as owner of the maturing cellars & the then fledgling export business. Both sons went on to garner respect & recognition for their skills in sourcing, ripening & service & continue to run the company in France to this day. In 2006, Mons Cheesemongers opened at Borough Market with a view to bringing the French company’s style & quality of cheese & service to the UK. We select & mature traditionally made cheeses, with a focus on those from France & Switzerland, ripened in our cellars in both London & St Haon le Chatel.
